Water Main Constructor Engineer/Inspector

CTR (a joint venture of CH2M HILL, Teng & Assoc. (exp U.S. Services), and Rise Engineering (ARCADIS U.S.)) provides program management services to the Chicago Dept. of Water Management (CDWM). As part of the CTR program team, supporting the CDWM Capital Improvement Program, this position will report to the CTR Water Main Inspection Group Manager. CTR provides construction management services for the infrastructure that is replaced by DWM as part of its capital improvement program (CIP) and the primary responsibility of this position is to support the construction delivery of this effort.

Job Description
The purpose of the Water Main Inspector is to provide third-party construction inspection services for our client’s water distribution infrastructure program. This position is responsible for daily construction inspection of new water main construction, status reporting, and contractor-owner coordination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities are both routine and non-routine in nature. General duties of the position include, but are not limited, to the following:
  • Observation, inspection, and documentation of underground utility construction as an Owner’s representative
  • Ensure compliance with design plans and specifications and permit requirements
  • Document contractor progress, maintain accurate quantity records, process payment requests, generate punch lists, and certify completion status
  • Document site activities accurately by maintaining accurate and current field books, construction reports, and as-built record drawings
  • Coordinate with City personnel for water quality testing
  • Advocate for site safety and interface with elected officials and their staffs, as well as the general public
  • Create and track work orders for each project in the DWM program database

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • Experience working in/for municipal agencies or with utility infrastructure networks
  • Experience in delivery of and/or supporting technical work (construction specifications, documentation and drawings) in a construction environment
  • Experience with simultaneously inspecting multiple projects
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with 0 to 4+ years of experience in engineering or construction related field; or
  • B.S. in Construction or Project Management with 2 to 6+ years of experience in engineering or construction related field; or
  • A.S. or A.A.S. in Construction Management with 4 to 8+ years of experience in engineering or construction related field

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily in an outdoor, highly urbanized environment
  • Ability to commute to/from multiple work sites
